Pasteurized Akkermansia muciniphila
- In stock, ready to ship
Akkermansia is naturally found in your gastrointestinal tract and helps regulate and protect the mucus (inner) lining of the gut. Akkermansia muciniphila, can be associated with healthy weight management. The strain designation for this product is Muc [CIP 107961]
The combination of pasteurized Akkermansia muciniphila and Mannan Oligosaccharides (MOS) is a synbiotic supplement. Synbiotics are defined as a combination of pre- and probiotics with synergistic activity benefiting the immune system, various metabolic processes, and gastrointestinal health.
Several studies have indicated the beneficial impact of A. muciniphila in maintaining gut health and glucose homeostasis, as well as preventing and ameliorating inflammation, metabolic disorders, obesity and associated complications.
Despite these beneficial effects, live probiotics can be a matter of concern particularly in vulnerable patients and pediatric populations.
The major risks include: systemic infections due to translocation, acquisition of antibiotic resistance genes, or interference with gut microbial colonization in infants.
Using pasteurized, or heat-killed, non-viable microorganisms will avert these risks. Even though these are heat-killed, clinical studies show this method of inactivation does not abolish the effect of A. muciniphila but even exacerbated its beneficial impact.
Therefore, these killed or pasteurized bacteria may have more advantages over live probiotics, mainly because of the safety profile.
MOS is a key prebiotic that can improve gut health by inhibiting the adhesion of harmful bacteria to intestinal lining cells and by supporting the colonization of the gut with beneficial bacteria.
Although A. muciniphila/MOS synbiotic is primarily designed for immunocompromised individuals and children, it can be also consumed by healthy individuals as a part of health maintenance protocol.
